RESEARCH AND PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS

ACCESSIBILITY
It is incredibly important to me that we do not restrict theatre to only the privileged, able-bodied, affluent, or locationally lucky. For theatre to make change in our world, we must make theatre for and bring theatre to under privileged areas, marginalized communities, and audience members with different abilities.

CREATIVE DRAMA
I love directing youth and teaching the fundamentals of theatre. I also believe that theatre can be used as a vehicle to teach other subjects, whether those subjects are tied to standards or socio-emotional development. Creative drama, a processed based theatre teaching style, allows me to engage my students through imagining, enacting, and reflecting on different situations.

SOCIAL JUSTICE
All theatre is political, because choosing not to make a statement is making its own statement. I want the theatre I create to hold a mirror up to the issues of the world and let my audience see their reflection, so they feel enabled and compelled to act on the injustices they see or face in their daily lives.
HOBBIES
Here are some of my other topical interests that inform my teaching or otherwise occupy my downtime!

MUSIC
I have been playing piano since I was seven years old. I picked up both guitar and ukulele in 2019, and have dabbled in songwriting and production. I also have an assortment of small instruments that I enjoy using in my teaching, from drums to harmonicas to ocarinas to melodicas.

CROSS STITCHING
I wouldn't call myself a crafty person, but one hobby I do enjoy while letting my mind relax is cross stitching, where I can create needlepoint works of art from patterns. I love to express my interests through my cross stitch pieces, and I especially love making these pieces as gifts.

GAMING
I love playing video games and board games that allow me to create my own story in my characters. I also love games that have objectives and story points that I get to follow and discover, and I'm a sucker for logic puzzles.
